True Mass Yoink

The Calamitous Bob

True Mass Yoink is the decisive battlefield evolution of Viviane Saint-Lys’s Yoink spell, created during the defense of Fort Sky when ordinary attacks could no longer protect the soldiers around her. It transforms a single-target extraction effect into a spreading network of black-mana strikes, allowing Viviane to destroy multiple puppeteers and their bound revenants simultaneously. More than a stronger spell, it marks the moment when desperation, experimentation, and black-mana affinity become a coherent combat method.

Origins in the Siege

True Mass Yoink emerges during the assault on Fort Sky. The undead advance up a slope made from flesh, but the mass itself becomes a bottleneck: the first revenants collapse beneath the collective weight, turning the charge into a slow upward slog. Viviane recognizes that ordinary use of Yoink will not be enough. The spell is already described as extraordinarily powerful and dangerous to anyone except her, yet its previous form cannot solve the scale of the immediate threat. The battlefield therefore forces her to exceed an ability that was already functioning beyond normal limits.

The tactical situation makes the spell a response to both terrain and enemy organization. The necromancer’s control over the undead is erratic, and Viviane notices moments when individual creatures abandon the attempt to consume the defenders and return to formation before the control frays again. The revenants are not merely a crowd of bodies; they are expendable units directed by hidden puppeteers. By attacking the formation rather than waiting for isolated targets, Viviane seeks to break the mechanism that allows the assault to continue.

Construction and First Use

Viviane builds the spell by recalling the twisted spiral of the pierce rune, which forms the base of Yoink, and adding the overcome rune. Two flat planes collide before her, producing an image like a hole punched through a flimsy wall. Her improved ability to cast and multitask allows her to hold both runes in her mind at once, although the effort blurs her vision. She then overcharges the resulting beam and releases it into the front of the advancing revenants.

The first effect is already larger than a normal Yoink. A front revenant glows black, and then an entire row of puppeteers takes on the same color. When the puppeteer shrieks, all of them explode into black ash simultaneously. Viviane names the achievement aloud as “MASS YOINK,” and the resulting ash further slows the assault. The spell is therefore tested under pressure rather than prepared in safety: its success immediately changes the pace of the siege, but it does not end the danger.

Viviane continues to alternate one exhausting mass attack with several smaller Yoinks while the undead climb the ramp and approach the wall. She is already impaired by effort and has not recovered from the previous night’s excess, yet the repeated casting buys time. When the first bound revenants crest the ramparts, they attack with unexpected fury, using cunning maneuvers and sacrificial tactics to overwhelm the defenders. The Baranese lose a soldier, proving that the earlier mass destruction has delayed the assault without making the defenders secure.

True Mass Yoink and the Black Witch Path

The final version appears when Viviane refuses to withdraw while the soldiers are surrounded by ravenous undead. The puppeteers hide behind expendable flesh, using the mass of revenants to force the defenders into a desperate circle. Her anger at seeing people die for her becomes inseparable from her decision to unleash more power. At that threshold, the black mana in her core breaks through her restraints, flooding her conduits and thoughts and carrying her into a trance.

She aligns the pierce and overwhelm runes, then adds spread, a rune that begins as a small circle and extends into three branches. The completed spell expands through her mind and the surrounding air. The narrative emphasizes that the formation is not simply a larger projectile: it is a network of black spears that slices through the undead mass, burrows inward in search of more mana, takes and spreads its effect, tracks targets, and finally withdraws at the limit of its reach. The spell’s geometry and behavior give it an area-wide, self-propagating quality absent from the earlier single-line attack.

Viviane speaks the completed name, “True mass yoink.” The black spears pass through the surrounding revenants with overwhelming force, and the battlefield effect confirms the spell’s purpose: it is designed to extract or consume through a connected mass rather than strike one enemy at a time. Its creation is immediately followed by a system advancement. Her mana manipulation reaches Intermediate 1, and her Black Hedge Witch path advances to level ten.

The path evolution also changes the conditions under which the spell can be used. Viviane selects Black Witch, gaining mental statistics that are three times more efficient when wielding black mana and only fifty percent more efficient with other types. The choice prevents her from manipulating life mana while greatly improving associated skill acquisition. True Mass Yoink thus belongs to a broader specialization: the spell’s sudden effectiveness is not accidental, but the combat expression of a path that rewards black-mana manipulation and ties power to restrictive commitment.

Cost, Emotion, and Consequences

The spell’s power carries an immediate physical price. When the mana returns after the attack, it brings intense pain, and black flames emerge from Viviane’s skin as her conduits become saturated. She ignores the warning of mild mana poisoning and dismisses the system windows as superficial representations of an experience she can physically feel. The danger is not abstract numerical feedback: the spell pushes her body and mind into a state where power, pain, and emotion are simultaneous.

Black mana responds particularly strongly to Viviane’s resentment. Solfis had explained that mana could be charged with concepts and that each color carried associated ideas that specialized the spells shaped from it. During the creation of True Mass Yoink, Viviane finally understands that principle through direct experience. Her resentment does not merely accompany the spell; it aligns with the nature of the black mana driving it, helping produce the overwhelming and invasive form of the attack.

The victory at Fort Sky remains materially grim. After the day is won, Viviane and the others must gather the battlefield remains before black mana entering through the breached gate reaches critical mass and reanimates the fallen army. The spell helps save the fort, but it does not erase the human cost. Jor cannot be identified among the burned and collapsed bodies, while Benetti is found in fragments. Viviane and Cernit gather what remains of him with reverence, and Cernit preserves his enchanted sword as a sign of family. True Mass Yoink therefore stands at the center of a victory that is both miraculous and contaminated by carrion, ash, sacrifice, and the possibility of renewed undead violence.

Narrative Significance

True Mass Yoink is the clearest demonstration that Viviane’s growth comes through forced invention rather than orderly instruction. She begins with an already unfairly powerful spell, discovers that its ordinary form is insufficient, and then combines runes in a way that violates the apparent scale of the original ability. The sequence turns battlefield necessity into a laboratory: terrain reveals the problem, observation reveals the enemy’s weakness, anger supplies the threshold, and experimentation produces a new rule-breaking result.

The spell also joins tactical calculation to moral refusal. Viviane studies the necromancer’s unstable control and the revenants’ formation, but her decisive escalation occurs because she will not allow the soldiers to die for her. That combination matters. True Mass Yoink is neither detached strategic optimization nor uncontrolled rage; it is a weapon formed where analysis, resentment, protectiveness, and the black-mana path converge. Its achievement saves Fort Sky while exposing the cost of the power that made survival possible.
